About Paws for Talk
āThe greater the love, the greater the pain of the loss.ā
Nikki Catley has dedicated her life to the animal industry. She began her journey working in a pet shop and eventually landed her dream role in a veterinary practice. After many years supporting veterinarians and their clients, Nikki chose to formalise the guidance she had long been providing. She undertook further study and became certified to facilitate the counselling relationship, specialising in pet loss grief and anticipatory end of life support.
Deeply passionate about helping pet parents and families navigate the emotional and practical challenges of end of life decisions, Nikki has supported many people through ināperson and phone consultations focused on quality of life assessment and compassionate guidance.
Nikki also brings lived experience with behavioural euthanasia, a uniquely complex and often misunderstood form of loss. This personal insight allows her to support families with a depth of understanding and empathy that is difficult to find elsewhere.
Wanting to extend her support even further, she created a tangible resource that families could return to whenever they needed comfort, clarity, or reassurance. This is how Fur the Broken Hearted was born, a selfāhelp guide designed to offer emotional and practical support throughout the most difficult moments of pet ownership. The guide also includes a thoughtful quality of life assessment to help families make informed, compassionate decisions with greater confidence.
