About Ebb and Flow Family Counseling
Natasha Griffin, LMFT, LPCC
Pet Loss Grief Counselor | Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist | California Telehealth
Losing a beloved pet can be deeply painful. Whether your pet recently passed away, you are struggling with anticipatory grief, or you are having difficulty adjusting after a loss, you do not have to navigate that experience alone.
Iām Natasha Griffin, LMFT, LPCC, a licensed marriage and family therapist providing compassionate pet loss grief counseling for adults in California through telehealth. I support individuals who are grieving the death of a dog, cat, or other beloved companion animal and those experiencing the emotional challenges that can come with pet loss.
Pet loss can bring intense sadness, loneliness, guilt, anger, anxiety, or a sense that other people do not fully understand why the loss feels so significant. Our pets are family, and the bond we share with them can make their illness, end-of-life process, and death especially difficult.
I can support you with:
Pet loss grief and bereavement
Anticipatory grief when a pet is aging, seriously ill, or approaching the end of life
Grief following euthanasia
Feelings of guilt or uncertainty surrounding end-of-life decisions
The emotional impact of losing a longtime companion animal
Anxiety, sadness, or depression related to pet loss
Adjusting to life after the death of a pet
Complicated or lingering grief
Grieving when others do not understand the significance of your loss
Supporting children and families through pet loss
Life transitions and changes following the loss of a companion animal
My therapeutic approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), attachment-based approaches, and grief-informed therapy. I believe the goal of pet loss counseling is not to āget overā your pet. Instead, therapy can provide a safe space to process the loss, make room for difficult emotions, honor the relationship you shared, and gradually find ways to move forward while carrying that love with you.
I also understand that grief does not always begin when a pet dies. Sometimes it begins when a beloved animal is diagnosed with a serious illness, begins declining with age, or when you are faced with the difficult decision of whether and when to say goodbye. Anticipatory grief and caregiver stress can be just as significant as grief after a loss, and counseling can provide support throughout that process.
As a California-licensed LMFT and LPCC, I provide private-pay telehealth counseling throughout California, making it possible to receive pet loss grief support from the comfort of home.
If you are searching for a pet loss therapist, pet loss grief counselor, grief counselor for the loss of a dog or cat, or online pet bereavement counseling in California, I invite you to reach out. You deserve a space where your relationship with your petāand the grief that follows their lossāis taken seriously.
Your pet was family. Your grief matters.
