About House Call Vet RVA

About House Call Vet RVA

House Call Vet RVA was founded by Dr. Kaitlyn Hemsley to help Richmond-area families navigate one of the most difficult parts of loving a pet: knowing when and how to say goodbye.

After more than 15 years in veterinary medicine, including extensive experience in emergency and critical care, Dr. Hemsley saw how overwhelming end-of-life decisions can feel for families—and how meaningful it can be when a beloved pet is able to remain at home, surrounded by familiar people, favorite places, and the comforts they know best.

Our Approach

We believe end-of-life veterinary care should never feel rushed, impersonal, or like a one-size-fits-all process. Every pet, family, and goodbye is different.

House Call Vet RVA provides compassionate, individualized support centered on your pet’s comfort and your family’s needs. Whether you are beginning to wonder about quality of life, need help understanding when it may be time, or have made the decision to say goodbye, our role is to offer clear veterinary guidance while giving you the space and support you need.

During an in-home euthanasia appointment, our priority is creating a peaceful, gentle experience. We take time to explain what to expect, answer questions, and allow your family to move through the goodbye at your own pace whenever possible.

What Makes Us Different

House Call Vet RVA is a locally owned, veterinarian-led practice devoted specifically to senior pets, quality-of-life guidance, and compassionate end-of-life care.

Our care extends beyond the euthanasia appointment itself. We believe families deserve support before, during, and after the goodbye—from quality-of-life conversations and planning ahead to grief resources, remembrance, and honoring the life you shared.

Most importantly, we understand that this isn’t simply a veterinary appointment. It is the closing chapter of a relationship built over years of companionship, routines, adventures, comfort, and unconditional love.

Our purpose is simple: to help your pet’s final chapter be filled with comfort, dignity, and love—and to help you feel supported every step of the way.
