Angel Pets Veterinary Hospice

Angel Pets is a privately owned, in-home veterinary hospice and euthanasia practice based in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We are proud to serve families throughout the region—including parts of North Carolina—with heartfelt care and compassion. Our devoted team of six veterinarians is united by a shared mission: to honor the human-animal bond by prioritizing comfort, dignity, and quality of life for our patients in their final chapter.

Founded by Dr. Melanie Cohen, Angel Pets was born from a deeply personal calling to support pets and families during one of life’s most tender moments. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, and spending school holidays  on a farm in Namibia, Dr. Cohen developed an early love for animals and a fascination with medicine. After moving to the U.S. at age 16, she pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian, earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida.

Her passion for end-of-life care was sparked by personal experience, witnessing the grace and peace hospice brought to her own family. That moment reshaped her professional path. For Dr. Cohen, this work is not a job—it’s a calling. It’s about entering homes as strangers and leaving as trusted guides, holding space for love, grief, and final goodbyes.

Since opening Angel Pets, Dr. Cohen and her team have supported thousands of families in Virginia. They believe that helping pets pass peacefully at home—surrounded by those who love them most—is one of the greatest honors in veterinary medicine.
