Compassionate Pet Care of the Upper Peninsula
About
Jessi graduated with an A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology from Baker College of Cadillac in 2008. Her husband’s previous military career in the United States Coast Guard allowed her to live and practice in Lower Michigan, Alaska, Virginia and currently lives and practices in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with most of her career spent in general practice allowing her to work with everything from pocket pets to eagles to reindeer and retired Iditarod sled dogs in Alaska. She also spent some time doing relief work.
About 5 years into her career, she felt herself gravitating toward the older pets and clients who wanted to do the best for their pet family members but had difficulty following through at home and in 2018 Jessi was able start focusing on those pets and clients when she became one of the first graduates through the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Technician (CHPT). Soon after acquiring this certification, she started her own business, Compassionate Pet Care of the Upper Peninsula where she provides in-home veterinary nursing care and a few years later, with her husband, they started Sheltered Harbor Pet Memorials where they make personalized pet memorial keepsakes.
In 2024, wanting to focus more on supporting the client’s needs for their pet’s end-of-life journey with them, Jessi earned her certificate as a Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula.
Jessi and her husband have 3 daughters and their current pet family includes an 18 year old Manx cat named Fiona, a 1 year old Highlander cat named DJ Katnip, a 5 year old black lab mix named Musta (moose-tah) and six, 1 year old friendly chickens- Big Bon, Bertha, Chip, Hedwig, Penelope and Lucy.
